Having always had interest towards different cultures and art forms I always like to mix them in my designs.
This particular project is conjoined from two seemingly very different cultures and art forms: Islamic prayer rugs and Nordic knitting motifs.

The arch shape is inspired the idea of an Islamic prayer rug and the layout follows the same theme and the stars are the only light during the long dark winter in my neck of the woods.
Admittedly the star motifs used in the design are used in many cultures, but personally I have only seen them used in larger quantities in Nordic cultures and coming from Northern Europe I have got more or less accustomed to see them all the time, mostly in knitwear.
My origin is also the reason for the rather curious alphabet chosen for the design: my native language just has few more letters than English alphabet.

There was also need for the design in various ways.
One of them was my willingness to learn to design alphabet samplers as I have always found designing alphabets difficult and other one was to provide you with another Stitch-A-Long after all the wonderful feedback I got during and after “The Spanish Sampler“ Mystery SAL.

There is also a mother of this little sampler, which I designed just few days before this one: it was designed, or rather it wanted to became, a holiday sampler after I fell in love with certain colour scheme while stitching an ornament for an exchange.
Eventually I noticed that the sampler looks amazing in other colour schemes too, and it inspired me to design more with the same style and idea: alphabet sampler with stars that changes season simply by changing its colours.
