Tales from Periphaeria

Designs, and designer’s musings, from the edge of the Universe
calendar December 31st, 2010 by Lady Periphaeria

Now that the new designs are out it’s time for some more fun!

Yes, you read it right! I am having another Stitch-A-Long – and this time you know how the finished design looks like! :)

First things first, pictures!

Blue and brown scheme was the one I designed this with, but as I love to see how change of colour affects to a design I did some previews in different colour schemes:

Notice that in both lines the one on right has same floss colour, only the fabric changes.

I have got myself supplies for the “rustic” colour scheme (lower middle) and let’s see if I would actually have time and energy to stitch it with you guys this time. :)

If you choose the “Christmas” colour scheme you will be happy to hear that I have designed a complimenting sampler and plan to (try my best noticing that I work full-time and have health issues :) ) stitch that one during 2011. (Though admittedly that sampler is like this one: it looks great in other colours too.)
Actually this project is complimenting project for the holiday sampler that christmassy colour scheme originates from and I designed Star Sampler because I fell in love with the motifs I used in that (bigger) holiday sampler. (Still this goes well on its own too as it has unique touch to it despite being inspired by other design.)

Let’s get into details!

  • Size: 101 x 223 stitches.
  • Colours needed: your choice. You will need approximately 3-4 regular 8 metre skeins of dominating colour and 1-2 regular 8 metre skeins of the complimenting/ contrasting (this depends on you) colour – when using two strands of floss.
  • Fabric: size of the fabric required depends on your choice of fabric (count) and finishing method.
    Stitched area is
    • 14 count (or 28 count over two): ~18.3 cm/ ~7.2 inches (w) X ~ 40.5 cm/ ~15.9 inches (h)
    • 16 count (or 32 count over two): ~ 16 cm/~6.3 inches (w) X ~ 35.4 cm/~13.9 inches (h)
    • 18 count (or 36 count over two): ~ 14.3 cm/ ~ 5.6 inches (w) X ~ 31.5 cm/ ~ 12.4 inches (h)

“And when is this wonderfulness starting?” you ask.

I will upload the first part 1st of February to this blog here and from there new part goes up once a month, 1st of the month until October 1st, which means that you have plenty of time to finish this before Christmas 2011 :) , and all the parts will be taken down 1st of January 2012. After that date this design will never be available free of charge.

Even new part comes out every month the parts are only approximately 101 x 23 stitches and two first parts are most stitch intense so even if you fall a bit behind it will be easy to catch up later. :)

If you have any questions please fire away in the comment section, I try to answer to all your enquiries in follow up entries. :)

  15. Oh my I love this!! I am so tempted to do it in two different colorways! The hot pink/black and the white/red!

  16. Oooh! Please do Michele! :)

  17. This will very nicely compliment the Rose Sampler that Ellen gave us a couple of years ago. For that one I chose a light blue fabric and a blue Variations along with the 4 blues it was made of. Might go with navy fabric and lighter blue flosses this time. I guess it’s time to do a “floss toss”.

  18. I’m not much into samplers but this one on read is really calling to me. I just set my calendar up with the monthly reminders for this one.

  19. Terry, if you have a Facebook profile I will set events for each part in there.

  27. How do I get part I as I just joined the SAL?

  28. LeAnn, browse through the entries. You can find the part one from the previous posts.

  29. Still waiting for my fabric…Thankfully it should be here in a week.
I’m thinking of using only 4140 Variations only …but not 100% sure. Outi what were the brown and cream/tan colours you did the first black sampler in?

  30. Beaj, those are DMC 3862 and 3864. :)
